Overcoming your presuppositions

The greatest thing holding you back - your existing presuppositions

After years of trying to train people to do Bible studies the way I do them, I became frustrated. Even though I could teach the mechanics of word searches and digging into the original languages, very few people could duplicate what I was able to do.

After years of observation, I realized that the single most important aspect of the Grace Aware Bible Study Method was the awareness of existing presuppositions. Now I was finally on to something! I adjusted the Method and the training and to my disappointment, I only got incrementally better results. Apparently you can't teach someone to overcome their presuppositions. Their presuppositions got into their heads by conditioning, and they need to be transformed by the renewing of their minds.

After more observation I came to realize that this Method is more effective if you show people how to do it, rather than trying to teach them in some more conventional way. By showing the Method in action, and reinforcing the key concepts afterwards, the results are significantly better and faster. With this new strategy, most people who go through our training have profoundly increased Bible understanding that in many cases exceeds that of their own pastors.

We now make it our priority to train people first to be "seekers."

About Dave Weston

As an elder, home fellowship leader, and Bible teacher for over two decades, Dave became aware that Christians had slipped from teaching the Good News of the Gospel of Grace into legalistic disempowering doctrines that have held people back from knowing God's love. Dave has developed an integrated study method that focuses on eliminating presuppositions and equipping believers to see what's really in the Bible (and avoiding seeing what's not in the Bible!).
