Description

It started with a broken woman in a church meeting who asked two honest questions about confessing sin: "How do I do that? And how will I ever know that it worked?"

She had been told that the Holy Spirit was convicting her of her sins, and that her fellowship with God was broken until she found and confessed every one. Nobody at the table could answer her. Her questions sent Dave Weston back to the Bible with a pad of paper and a sharp pencil.

The Confession Cycle takes a close, careful look at a teaching many believers have heard all their lives. Dave reads the two verses it rests on, John 16:8 and 1 John 1:9, in their full context. He searches the New Covenant for a description of the cycle, instructions for doing it, and examples of anyone doing it. He also works through the passages most often raised in its favor, including grieving the Holy Spirit, James 5:16, Hebrews 10:26, examining yourself before Communion, the prodigal son, and David and Nathan.

What he finds is good news: "forgiven," "remembered no more," "no condemnation," an Advocate who is already with the Father, and a Spirit who reminds believers of their righteousness in Christ. Each chapter ends with a practice exercise, and an appendix walks through New Testament people who sinned so you can check the accounts for yourself.

If you have ever wondered whether you are "in" or "out" with God today, this book is for you.

About Dave Weston

As an elder, home fellowship leader, and Bible teacher for over two decades, Dave became aware that Christians had slipped from teaching the Good News of the Gospel of Grace into legalistic disempowering doctrines that have held people back from knowing God's love. Dave has developed an integrated study method that focuses on eliminating presuppositions and equipping believers to see what's really in the Bible (and avoiding seeing what's not in the Bible!).
